Choose a sunny spot with excellent drainage, especially through winter. Water regularly while roots become established, then allow the soil to dry between waterings; established plants tolerate dry spells. Avoid soggy soil and heavy mulch against the crown. Leave old stems standing through winter and trim back in spring as new growth appears.
