Common Witch Hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) brings a bright finishing touch to the autumn garden. Slender, ribbon-like yellow petals unfurl along its branches late in the season, while broad green leaves turn warm yellow in fall. Its open, multi-stemmed form adds natural structure and a woodland feel throughout the growing season.
Native to eastern North America, this deciduous shrub is a lovely choice for woodland margins, native gardens, and informal screening. Give it room to develop its spreading silhouette, with ferns or other woodland perennials beneath its branches.
